Clinical Overview
Mebeverine Hydrochloride (135mg) and Chlordiazepoxide (5mg) Tablets is a fixed combination musculotropic antispasmodic and anxiolytic. Mebeverine acts directly on colonic smooth muscle cells, blocking voltage-operated sodium channels and preventing calcium influx without systemic anticholinergic effects. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine that enhances GABAergic inhibitory neurotransmission in the limbic system, reducing visceral hyperalgesia and brain-gut axis anxiety. Indicated for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) exacerbated by stress, anxiety-related spastic colon, and functional abdominal cramping.
