Clinical Overview
Chlordiazepoxide is the historical first-discovered benzodiazepine. It acts by binding to stereospecific GABAA receptors in the central nervous system, enhancing chloride ion channel opening and augmenting GABA-mediated neuronal inhibition. Possesses active metabolites with a long elimination half-life. Indicated for short-term relief of severe anxiety disorders and acute management of alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
