Clinical Overview
Chlordiazepoxide and Trifluoperazine combines an anxiolytic benzodiazepine with a high-potency phenothiazine antipsychotic. Trifluoperazine blocks postsynaptic dopamine D2 receptors in the mesolimbic pathway, subduing agitation and delusional thinking, while chlordiazepoxide modulates GABAA receptors to control anxiety and somatic tension. Indicated for anxiety states complicated by somatic obsessions, severe agitation, or mild psychotic symptoms.
