Clinical Overview
Sodium Picosulphate Tablets (10mg) is an oral prodrug stimulant contact laxative on the WHO Model List framework. It passes unabsorbed through the stomach and small intestine to the colon, where bacterial sulfatases hydrolyze it to the active free diphenol metabolite (BHPM). This metabolite stimulates mucosal sensory nerve endings to induce strong colonic propulsive contractions within 6 to 12 hours. Indicated for short-term management of constipation and colon preparation prior to colonoscopy.
