Clinical Overview

Mosapride Citrate Tablets (5mg, alone or with Dimethicone 125mg chewable) is a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist gastroprokinetic. It stimulates presynaptic 5-HT4 receptors on enteric cholinergic neurons to promote acetylcholine release, accelerating gastric emptying and duodenal transit without blocking dopamine D2 receptors. Indicated for functional dyspepsia, chronic gastritis with delayed gastric emptying, and GERD. When combined with Dimethicone, it also relieves gas bloating and flatulence.

Usage Guidelines

Standard tablets: Take orally 5 mg three times daily before or after meals with water. Chewable combination: Chew thoroughly before swallowing, three times daily after meals.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Loose stools, diarrhea, dry mouth, abdominal pain, nausea, malaise. Rare/Severe: Fulminant hepatitis, jaundice, and transaminase elevations.

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Contraindicated in GI bleeding, mechanical bowel obstruction, and severe liver failure. Does not block HERG potassium channels, avoiding the cardiotoxicity associated with older 5-HT4 agonists (cisapride).
