Clinical Overview

Aspirin Gastro-Resistant Tablets (150mg) is an acetylated salicylate on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It irreversibly acetylates the serine 529 residue of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), permanently suppressing platelet thromboxane A2 (TXA2) generation for the entire lifespan of the platelet (7-10 days). Enteric coating bypasses the stomach to dissolve in the alkaline duodenum, minimizing direct contact gastric mucosal injury. Indicated for secondary prevention of myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIA), and unstable angina.

Usage Guidelines

Take orally once daily with a full glass of water, with or after meals. Swallow the enteric-coated tablet whole; do NOT crush, split, or chew, as crushing destroys the gastro-protective coating.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Dyspepsia, heartburn, nausea, increased bleeding tendency, easy bruising. Rare/Severe: Major gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hemorrhagic stroke, bronchospasm (aspirin-induced asthma), and tinnitus (salicylism with high doses).

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Strictly contraindicated in children and adolescents under 16 years of age with viral infections due to fatal Reye's syndrome risk. Contraindicated in active peptic ulcer disease and bleeding disorders. Withhold 7 days prior to elective surgery.
