Clinical Overview
Sucralfate Suspension (500mg/5ml) is an oral basic aluminum salt of sucrose octasulfate on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. Under acidic conditions (pH < 4), it polymerizes into an insoluble, polyanionic gel that adheres tenaciously to ulcerated mucosal tissue, protecting the ulcer crater from gastric acid, pepsin, and bile acids while stimulating endogenous prostaglandin synthesis and epidermal growth factor. Indicated for active duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, stress ulcer prophylaxis, and reflux esophagitis.
