Clinical Overview

Etoricoxib Tablets (90mg, 120mg) is an oral, second-generation, highly selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor on the WHO Model List framework. It displays an exceptional in vitro COX-2 to COX-1 selectivity ratio of approximately 106:1, potently suppressing pro-inflammatory prostaglandin synthesis without inhibiting protective COX-1 in gastric mucosa or platelets. Indicated for symptomatic relief of osteoarthritis (30-60 mg daily), rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis (60-90 mg daily), acute gouty arthritis (120 mg once daily for up to 8 days), and postoperative dental pain (90 mg once daily for up to 3 days).

Usage Guidelines

Take orally once daily with or without food with a full glass of water. For acute gouty arthritis, take 120 mg once daily for a maximum of 8 days. For dental pain, 90 mg once daily for maximum 3 days.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Hypertension, fluid retention, peripheral edema, headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal discomfort, palpitations. Rare/Severe: Myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure, severe hepatotoxicity, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Black Box Warning: Increased risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events (myocardial infarction and stroke); strictly contraindicated in patients with established ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, or uncontrolled hypertension (BP consistently > 140/90 mmHg). Monitor blood pressure within 2 weeks of initiation. Lower GI ulcer risk than non-selective NSAIDs.
