Clinical Overview
Flupentixol is a thioxanthene typical antipsychotic. At low doses (1-3 mg/day), it blocks presynaptic dopamine autoreceptors, stimulating dopamine turnover and exerting disinhibiting, mood-elevating, and anxiolytic effects; at higher doses, it blocks postsynaptic D2 receptors to control hallucinations and delusions. Indicated for maintenance treatment of schizophrenia, paranoid psychoses, and low-dose management of chronic depression with apathy.
