Pancreatin Gastro-Resistant Capsules (10,000, 25,000, 40,000 Lipase Units) is an oral porcine pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. Each capsule contains enteric-coated mini-microspheres designed to withstand gastric acid and dissolve rapidly at duodenal pH > 5.5, releasing standardized concentrations of lipase, amylase, and protease for physiological digestion of lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins. Indicated for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) associated with cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, and gastrectomy.

Usage Guidelines
Take orally with every meal and snack with ample fluid. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew microspheres. For patients unable to swallow capsules, open and mix the intact microspheres with acidic soft food (applesauce, yogurt, pH < 5.5) and consume immediately without chewing. Dosage is individualized based on clinical symptoms and fecal fat content.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Abdominal discomfort, flatulence, constipation, nausea, diarrhea. Rare/Severe: Fibrosing colonopathy (colonic strictures) reported with very high doses (>10,000 lipase units/kg/day) in cystic fibrosis children, and hyperuricemia.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Do not crush or chew microspheres (destroys enteric coating and can cause severe oral ulceration). Porcine origin; caution in porcine protein hypersensitivity. Monitor for fibrosing colonopathy if daily dose exceeds 10,000 lipase units/kg/day.
