Clinical Overview
Nicotine Polacrilex (Chewing Gum / Orally Disintegrating Strips) is a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It delivers controlled, low doses of medicinal nicotine systemically across the buccal mucosa without the carcinogenic tars, carbon monoxide, or combustion toxins of tobacco smoke, binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain to relieve withdrawal symptoms and craving. Indicated as an aid in smoking cessation and tobacco harm reduction.

Usage Guidelines
Place one nicotine strip on the tongue and press against the roof of the mouth or buccal mucosa until dissolved. Do not chew or swallow whole. Avoid eating or drinking acidic beverages (coffee, sodas, juice) for 15 minutes before and during use, as acidic pH impedes buccal absorption.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Mouth and throat irritation, hiccups, nausea, dyspepsia, jaw muscle ache, excessive salivation. Rare/Severe: Tachycardia, palpitations, headache, and dizziness.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Use with caution in patients with recent myocardial infarction, severe cardiac arrhythmias, or unstable angina. Keep strictly out of reach of children and pets, as small doses of nicotine can be fatal to infants or animals.
