Clinical Overview

Sumatriptan (85mg) and Naproxen Sodium (500mg) Tablets is a fixed-dose acute antimigraine therapy. Sumatriptan is a selective 5-HT1B/1D serotonin receptor agonist that constricts painfully dilated intracranial extracerebral blood vessels and inhibits pro-inflammatory neuropeptide release from trigeminal nerve terminals. Naproxen provides long-acting COX inhibition to suppress neurogenic dural inflammation and prevent headache recurrence. Indicated for acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults.

Usage Guidelines

Take orally 1 tablet with water at the earliest onset of migraine headache. If headache returns or patient has partial response, a second tablet may be taken after at least 2 hours (maximum 2 tablets in 24 hours). Swallow whole.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Chest tightness/pressure (triptan chest sensations), dizziness, somnolence, paresthesias, nausea, dyspepsia, dry mouth. Rare/Severe: Coronary artery vasospasm, myocardial infarction, stroke, arrhythmias, and GI ulceration.

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Contraindicated in coronary artery disease, history of myocardial infarction, Prinzmetal angina, uncontrolled hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke. Do not use within 24 hours of ergotamines or other triptans.
