Clinical Overview
Piracetam is the prototypical racetam nootropic agent. It binds to neuronal membranes to restore membrane fluidity, allosterically potentiates AMPA-type glutamate receptors, and improves cerebral microcirculation by reducing platelet aggregation and erythrocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium. Indicated for cortical myoclonus (as adjunctive therapy), cognitive disorders, post-stroke rehabilitation, and vertigo.

Usage Guidelines
Swallow tablets whole with water. Due to its activating properties, the final dose of the day should be taken in the late afternoon to prevent insomnia. Taper gradually when treating myoclonus.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Hyperkinesia, weight gain, nervousness, somnolence, depression, asthenia. Rare/Severe: Hemorrhagic complications, severe agitation, and anaphylactoid reactions.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Contraindicated in end-stage renal disease (CrCl < 20 mL/min), cerebral hemorrhage, and Huntington's chorea. In cortical myoclonus, abrupt discontinuation must be avoided as it may precipitate severe seizures or status myoclonicus.
