Clinical Overview

Coenzyme Q10 / Ubidecarenone Capsules (60mg, 100mg, 300mg; alone or with L-Carnitine, Lycopene, Zinc) is an essential mitochondrial electron transport cofactor and fat-soluble antioxidant on the PMBI Formulary. It functions in the inner mitochondrial membrane to facilitate electron transfer from complexes I/II to complex III for ATP generation, while scavenging free radicals in lipid membranes. Replenishes CoQ10 depletion caused by HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins). Indicated for adjuvant support in congestive heart failure, statin-induced myopathy, male subfertility (sperm motility enhancement), and neurodegenerative conditions.

Usage Guidelines

Take orally 100 mg to 300 mg daily with a meal containing dietary fat with water. CoQ10 is lipophilic; absorption is enhanced 3-fold when taken with fatty foods.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Extremely well tolerated. Common: Mild dyspepsia, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia.

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Over-The-Counter nutritional supplement. Structurally related to vitamin K; may modestly decrease anticoagulant response to warfarin (monitor INR).
