Clinical Overview
Tinidazole is a second-generation 5-nitroimidazole antimicrobial agent with a significantly longer elimination half-life (12-14 hours) than metronidazole, allowing once-daily dosing. It diffuses into microorganisms where its nitro group is reduced, creating free radicals that cause DNA strand breakage. Indicated for intestinal and hepatic amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, and prevention/treatment of postoperative anaerobic infections.
