Clinical Overview
Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) IP 5000 IU (Powder for injection with solvent) is a purified polypeptide gonadotropic hormone obtained from the urine of pregnant women. It acts as an LH surrogate by binding to the LH/CG receptor on granulosa and theca cells, triggering final oocyte maturation, follicular rupture (ovulation), and luteinization of the ruptured follicle with sustained progesterone production. Indicated for ovulation induction and luteal phase support in anovulatory infertility/assisted reproduction (IVF/IUI), and for prepubertal cryptorchidism and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males.

Usage Guidelines
For Intramuscular (IM) or Subcutaneous (SC) injection ONLY after reconstitution with the provided sterile solvent: Reconstitute carefully by gently swirling without vigorous shaking; inspect for clarity and inject immediately. For ovulation induction: 5,000 to 10,000 IU administered as a single dose once dominant follicle reaches >=18 mm on ultrasound folliculometry. Ovulation typically occurs 36 to 40 hours post-injection (timed intercourse or IUI scheduled accordingly).
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Local injection-site pain/erythema, headache, fatigue, irritability, abdominal distention, and mild breast tenderness. Rare/Severe: Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS - ascites, pleural effusion, hemoconcentration, oliguria), thromboembolism, multiple pregnancy, and allergic hypersensitivity.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
High risk of OHSS and multiple gestations; withhold hCG injection if serum estradiol is excessively elevated (>2,500 pg/mL) or if ultrasound shows >=3 follicles measuring >=15 mm. Contraindicated in androgen-dependent tumors, ovarian enlargement/cysts not related to PCOS, uncontrolled endocrine disorders, and undiagnosed gynecological bleeding.
