Clinical Overview

Dydrogesterone Tablets IP 10 mg is an orally active retro-progesterone stereoisomer with highly selective progestogenic activity on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. Due to its retro-configuration, it binds selectively to progesterone receptors without significant androgenic, estrogenic, glucocorticoid, or mineralocorticoid activity, providing potent endometrial secretory transformation without inhibiting ovulation or causing metabolic side effects. Indicated for threatened and recurrent miscarriage, luteal phase support in assisted reproductive technologies (ART), endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstrual cycles, and dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

Usage Guidelines

Take orally 10 mg one to three times daily with water, with or without food: For threatened abortion: 40 mg stat, followed by 10 mg every 8 hours until symptoms remit, then gradually tapered. For luteal phase support in IVF: 10 mg three times daily (30 mg/day) starting from oocyte retrieval until 12 weeks of pregnancy. For endometriosis/dysmenorrhea: 10 mg two to three times daily from Day 5 to Day 25 of the menstrual cycle.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Headache, nausea, dizziness, breast pain/tenderness, breakthrough bleeding/spotting, and abdominal pain. Rare/Severe: Hepatic dysfunction, angioedema, hemolytic anemia, and depression. Unlike older progestogens, it does not cause virilization, fluid retention, or androgenic acne.

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Contraindicated in undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, active venous thromboembolism, severe hepatic impairment, and known progestogen-dependent neoplasms (meningioma). High safety profile in pregnancy established across multi-center clinical trials.
