Risperidone and Trihexyphenidyl (Benzhexol) is a therapeutic combination designed to provide antipsychotic efficacy while preventing drug-induced movement disorders. Risperidone, a benzisoxazole atypical antipsychotic, blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors to control psychosis, while trihexyphenidyl, a centrally acting anticholinergic agent, blocks muscarinic M1 receptors to restore the dopamine-acetylcholine balance in the basal ganglia, preventing extrapyramidal symptoms (acute dystonia, parkinsonian rigidity, tremors, akathisia). Indicated for schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and severe psychotic agitation complicated by high extrapyramidal risk.
