Venlafaxine is a bicyclic phenylethylamine serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). At lower doses (< 150 mg/day), it acts predominantly as an SSRI; at higher doses, it significantly blocks norepinephrine reuptake, providing dual neurotransmitter elevation. Prolonged-release capsules provide uniform 24-hour plasma levels. Indicated for major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder.

Usage Guidelines
Take orally once daily with food, at approximately the same time each day (morning or evening). Swallow whole with water; do not divide, crush, chew, or dissolve in water. Taper slowly over several weeks to avoid withdrawal syndrome.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, somnolence, constipation, sweating, sexual dysfunction, dose-dependent hypertension. Rare/Severe: Boxed warning: Suicidality; sustained diastolic hypertension, serotonin syndrome, severe discontinuation syndrome, and angle-closure glaucoma.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Boxed warning for suicidality in youth. Regular blood pressure monitoring is mandatory due to dose-dependent hypertensive risk. High risk of severe discontinuation syndrome (dizziness, nausea, electric shocks) if a dose is missed. Contraindicated with MAOIs.
