Clinical Overview
Ranitidine Injection (25mg/ml) is an intravenous histamine H2-receptor antagonist on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It competitively and reversibly binds to histamine H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, suppressing basal, nocturnal, and secretagogue-stimulated gastric acid and pepsin secretion. Indicated for hospital treatment of pathological hypersecretory states, active peptic ulcer hemorrhage, stress ulcer prophylaxis in critically ill patients, and prevention of acid aspiration during anesthesia.

Usage Guidelines
Administer intravenously by slow IV injection (dilute to 20 mL with 0.9% NaCl and inject over at least 5 minutes) or intermittent IV infusion (dilute 50 mg in 100 mL compatible IV fluid and infuse over 15-20 minutes every 6 to 8 hours). Rapid IV injection may cause transient bradycardia.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Transient injection site irritation, headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea. Rare/Severe: Bradycardia, AV block, asystole (with rapid IV push), thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and acute pancreatitis.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Administer IV slowly over >5 minutes to avoid cardiac dysrhythmias. Adjust dosage in moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl < 50 mL/min). Ensure product batch meets regulatory NDMA nitrosamine purity standards.
