Clinical Overview
Potassium Citrate (1100mg) and Magnesium Citrate (375mg, with or without Pyridoxine 20mg or Citric Acid 334mg per 5ml) Oral Solution is a specialized dual-mineral nephrolithiasis inhibitor on the PMBI formulary. Absorbed citrate is metabolized to bicarbonate, alkalinizing the urine and increasing urinary citrate excretion. Citrate forms soluble chelates with calcium, preventing calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate crystal nucleation and agglomeration. Magnesium competes with calcium to form highly soluble magnesium oxalate, further retarding stone growth. Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) acts as a cofactor for alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase, reducing endogenous oxalate production. Indicated for renal tubular acidosis (RTA) with calcium stones, hypocitraturic calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis, and uric acid lithiasis.

Usage Guidelines
Dilute 10 to 15 mL in a full glass of water or fruit juice and drink after meals, two to three times daily. Take after meals to avoid gastrointestinal upset and laxative action. Maintain a 24-hour urine output of at least 2 liters.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Mild diarrhea, loose stools (from magnesium), nausea, abdominal fullness. Rare/Severe: Hyperkalemia, hypermagnesemia in renal failure, and gastrointestinal ulceration.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Over-The-Counter stone prophylaxis solution. Always dilute in water. Strictly contraindicated in severe renal insufficiency (GFR < 30 mL/min) and hyperkalemia. Regularly monitor serum potassium and urinary pH.
