Clinical Overview
Valacyclovir is the L-valyl ester prodrug of aciclovir, designed for superior oral bioavailability (3- to 5-fold higher than oral aciclovir). Following rapid hepatic first-pass hydrolysis into aciclovir, it selectively inhibits viral DNA polymerase, halting viral replication in Herpes simplex (HSV-1, HSV-2) and Varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Indicated for herpes zoster (shingles), episodic genital herpes flares, suppression of recurrent genital herpes, and herpes labialis.

Usage Guidelines
Swallow whole with a full glass of water, with or without food. Ensure adequate daily water consumption. Begin therapy at the very earliest signs or symptoms of an outbreak (tingling, burning, or blisters) for maximal therapeutic response.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
