Clinical Overview
Gabapentin is a structural GABA analogue that acts selectively by binding to the alpha-2-delta-1 subunit of presynaptic voltage-dependent calcium channels, attenuating calcium influx in hyper-excited spinal and cerebral neurons. Indicated for post-herpetic neuralgia, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and adjunctive therapy in partial-onset seizures with or without secondary generalization.
