Clinical Overview
Meropenem and Sulbactam is a potent ultra-broad-spectrum parenteral carbapenem-beta-lactamase inhibitor combination. Meropenem resists degradation by renal dehydropeptidase-1 and binds penicillin-binding proteins with high affinity, while sulbactam neutralizes beta-lactamases and exerts direct bactericidal activity against Acinetobacter baumannii. Indicated for life-threatening nosocomial infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, septicemia, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and severe surgical sepsis caused by MDR pathogens.

Usage Guidelines
Administered strictly in hospital and intensive care units via slow intravenous infusion over 30 to 60 minutes (or extended infusion over 3-4 hours) after reconstitution with Water for Injections or Normal Saline. Dose must be individualized by an infectious disease specialist.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, injection site phlebitis, thrombocytosis. Rare/Severe: Seizures/neurotoxicity (especially in renal impairment), severe anaphylaxis, Clostridioides difficile colitis, and agranulocytosis.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Contraindicated in patients with severe hypersensitivity to carbapenems or beta-lactams. Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders, epilepsy, or renal insufficiency; dosage must be adjusted strictly according to creatinine clearance. Co-administration with valproic acid reduces valproate levels, precipitating breakthrough seizures.
