Clinical Overview
Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride (0.5% w/v ophthalmic solution) is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone broad-spectrum bactericidal eye drop on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It simultaneously inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, demonstrating high corneal tissue penetration, low resistance rates, and exceptional potency against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), and Gram-negative ocular pathogens. Self-preserved formulation eliminates the need for epithelial-toxic preservatives like benzalkonium chloride. Indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis and peri-operative prophylaxis in intraocular surgeries.

Common: Transient eye irritation, burning, stinging, dry eye, subconjunctival hemorrhage, bitter taste in mouth. Rare/Severe: Corneal ulceration, severe allergic blepharoconjunctivitis, and anaphylaxis.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
