Clinical Overview
Zolpidem Tartrate is an imidazopyridine non-benzodiazepine hypnotic agent. It binds selectively with high affinity to the alpha-1 subunit-containing GABAA receptor subtype (omega-1 receptor) in the brain, sparing alpha-2 and alpha-3 subunits, resulting in potent sleep-inducing action with minimal myorelaxant and anticonvulsant effects. Indicated for short-term treatment of insomnia characterized by difficulties with sleep initiation.

Usage Guidelines
Take orally as a single dose immediately before bedtime, ensuring at least 7 to 8 hours remain before waking. Take on an empty stomach for rapid sleep induction. Prescribed strictly for short-term use (7-14 days).
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, dry mouth. Rare/Severe: Black box warning: Complex sleep behaviors (sleepwalking, sleep-driving, making phone calls while asleep), severe depression/suicidality, and next-day psychomotor impairment.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Black box warning for dangerous complex sleep behaviors; discontinue treatment permanently if an episode occurs. In women and the elderly, lower starting doses (5 mg) are recommended due to slower drug clearance. Avoid alcohol.
