🧴 Clinical Application
Administered solely by a registered healthcare professional via weekly subcutaneous injection after reconstitution. Weekly dosage is titrated based on platelet counts (target: 50,000 to 200,000/mcL).
⚠️ Side Effects
Common: Headache, arthralgia, dizziness, insomnia, myalgia, pain in extremity, abdominal pain. Rare/Severe: Thrombotic/thromboembolic complications, bone marrow reticulin fiber formation (reticulin fibrosis), loss of response due to neutralizing antibodies, and progression of myelodysplastic syndromes to acute myeloid leukemia.
🛡️ Safety Warnings
Excessive platelet counts increase thromboembolic risk; weekly complete blood counts are mandatory until a stable platelet count is achieved. Not indicated for treatment of thrombocytopenia due to myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) due to risk of progression to AML.
