🧴 Clinical Application

Take orally in two divided doses daily with food (morning and evening). Weight-based dosing: 1000 mg/day (<75 kg) or 1200 mg/day (>=75 kg). Swallow whole with water.

⚠️ Side Effects

Common: Hemolytic anemia, fatigue, nausea, insomnia, pruritus, dyspnea. Rare/Severe: Severe hemolytic anemia causing myocardial infarction or worsening coronary artery disease; teratogenic/embryocidal effects.

🛡️ Safety Warnings

Black Box Warning: Hemolytic anemia occurs in up to 10% of patients; monitor hemoglobin at baseline, week 2, and week 4. Black Box Warning: Extreme teratogenicity; contraindicated in pregnancy and in male partners of pregnant women. Strict dual contraception required during therapy and for 6 months post-treatment.

Ribavirin Capsules (200mg) is a synthetic guanosine nucleoside analogue antiviral on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It inhibits inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), depleting intracellular GTP pools and accelerating viral mutagenesis. Indicated in combination with direct-acting antivirals (e.g. sofosbuvir) for chronic hepatitis C in patients with decompensated cirrhosis or prior treatment failure.
