Clinical Overview
Human Rabies Vaccine (Purified Chick Embryo Cell or Vero Cell Culture) is an inactivated viral vaccine that stimulates high titers of virus-neutralizing anti-rabies antibodies. Rabies encephalitis is 100% fatal once clinical symptoms develop; prompt post-exposure prophylaxis is life-saving. Indicated for pre-exposure immunization in high-risk individuals (veterinarians, animal handlers) and mandatory post-exposure prophylaxis following Category II or III animal bites/scratches.

Usage Guidelines
Administered by a qualified healthcare provider via intramuscular injection into the deltoid muscle (never gluteal, as fat reduces efficacy) or certified intradermal regimen (Thai Red Cross protocol) on Days 0, 3, 7, and 14/28 as recommended by WHO/national guidelines. Category III exposures also require prompt local infiltration of Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG).
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Pain, erythema, swelling at injection site, low-grade fever, headache, nausea, malaise. Rare/Severe: Anaphylaxis, angioedema, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and encephalomyelitis.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Post-exposure prophylaxis for rabies has NO absolute contraindications; because rabies is universally fatal, pregnancy, infancy, or illness are not reasons to withhold vaccination. Immediate thorough wound washing with soap and water for 15 minutes is vital prior to vaccination.
