Clinical Overview
Cefadroxil is a first-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, causing bacterial lysis. It possesses a prolonged plasma half-life compared to cephalexin, allowing once- or twice-daily dosing. Indicated for streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and mild-to-moderate skin and skin structure infections.

Usage Guidelines
Swallow whole with water. May be taken with meals or on an empty stomach; taking with food helps mitigate mild GI upset. Adhere strictly to the prescribed 12-hour or 24-hour dosing schedule.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Nausea, dyspepsia, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Rare/Severe: Pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, erythema multiforme, and reversible neutropenia.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Contraindicated in patients with documented allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics. Cross-sensitivity can occur in penicillin-allergic patients. Adjust dosage in patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min).
