Clinical Overview
Amoxycillin (Amoxicillin) is a semisynthetic aminopenicillin bactericidal antibiotic. It acts by inhibiting the cross-linking of bacterial peptidoglycan chains in the bacterial cell wall via binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to autolysis and bacterial cell death. Indicated for uncomplicated ear, nose, and throat infections (streptococcal pharyngitis, acute otitis media), lower respiratory infections, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination regimens).
