Clinical Overview
Tetanus Toxoid (Tetanus Vaccine) is an active immunizing biological agent containing purified, formaldehyde-detoxified tetanus toxoid adsorbed onto mineral aluminum salts. It induces active immunity by stimulating the production of specific neutralizing anti-tetanus IgG antitoxins against the neurotoxin produced by Clostridium tetani. Indicated for routine active immunization against tetanus and post-exposure prophylaxis following wound injury.

Usage Guidelines
Administered by a licensed healthcare professional by deep intramuscular (IM) injection, preferably into the deltoid muscle in adults or anterolateral thigh in infants. Never administer intravenously. Adhere to national immunization schedules and booster intervals.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Local tenderness, erythema, swelling, or induration at injection site; low-grade fever; mild malaise; headache. Rare/Severe: Severe anaphylaxis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, brachial neuritis, and sterile abscess at injection site.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Contraindicated in patients with severe acute hypersensitivity to previous doses. In patients with bleeding disorders, administer with caution to avoid hematoma. If a wound is tetanus-prone and high risk, tetanus immunoglobulin (TIG) should be administered concomitantly at a separate anatomical site.
