Minocycline is a potent, highly lipophilic second-generation tetracycline derivative. It penetrates tissues, sebaceous glands, and the central nervous system rapidly, where it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis via 30S ribosomal binding. Also exhibits anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity. Indicated for moderate-to-severe inflammatory acne vulgaris, multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infections, meningococcal carrier state prophylaxis, and susceptible skin/soft tissue infections.

Usage Guidelines
Swallow whole with plenty of fluid while sitting or standing. Do not crush or chew modified-release or extended-release formulations. May be taken with or without food; taking with food does not significantly reduce absorption compared to other tetracyclines. Avoid lying down immediately after ingestion.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Dizziness, lightheadedness, vertigo, nausea, diarrhea, and hyperpigmentation of skin/nails/mucous membranes. Rare/Severe: Drug-induced lupus erythematosus, autoimmune hepatitis, pseudotumor cerebri, and DRESS syndrome.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Contraindicated in children under 8 years and pregnancy due to tooth discolouration and skeletal retardation. May cause vestibular symptoms (vertigo, dizziness); avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Long-term use requires monitoring for hyperpigmentation and autoimmune serology (ANA).
