Clinical Overview

Human Papillomavirus Quadrivalent (Types 6, 11, 16, and 18) Recombinant Vaccine is a sterile liquid suspension of virus-like particles (VLPs) of the L1 major capsid protein on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It stimulates high titers of neutralizing IgG antibodies that transudate into cervicovaginal secretions, blocking HPV entry into basal epithelial cells. Types 16 and 18 cause ~70% of cervical cancers, anal cancers, and precancerous lesions (CIN 2/3), while types 6 and 11 cause ~90% of anogenital warts (condyloma acuminata). Indicated for prevention of cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and anal cancers, precancerous dysplasias, and genital warts in females and males aged 9 through 26 (and up to 45 years).

Usage Guidelines

Administer intramuscularly (IM) into the deltoid region of the upper arm (0.5 mL per dose). Age 9 to 14 years: 2-dose schedule at 0 and 6 to 12 months. Age 15 years and older (or immunocompromised): 3-dose schedule at 0, 1 to 2, and 6 months. Shake well before administration. Have the recipient sit or lie down for 15 minutes after vaccination to prevent syncope-related injury.

General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Injection site pain, swelling, erythema, headache, low-grade fever, nausea, dizziness. Rare/Severe: Vasovagal syncope (post-vaccination fainting, especially in adolescents) and severe anaphylaxis.

*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.

Precautions & Warnings

Preventive vaccine only; does NOT treat established HPV infections, genital warts, or cervical dysplasia. Observe patient for 15 minutes post-vaccination to prevent falls from vasovagal syncope. Routine cervical cancer screening (Pap smear / HPV DNA testing) must continue unchanged after vaccination.
