Losartan Potassium is the prototype selective competitive angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1) antagonist on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It blocks the physiological actions of angiotensin II, lowering systemic vascular resistance and aldosterone secretion, while its active metabolite EXP3174 provides long-acting non-competitive blockade. Possesses unique uricosuric activity, lowering serum uric acid levels. Indicated for essential hypertension, diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes with elevated creatinine and proteinuria, and stroke reduction in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.
