Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitor on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II, reducing peripheral arterial resistance, decreasing aldosterone secretion, and inhibiting the enzymatic degradation of bradykinin, producing potent vasodilation and cardioprotection. Indicated for essential hypertension, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), post-myocardial infarction, and diabetic nephropathy.

Usage Guidelines
Take orally once or twice daily with a glass of water, with or without meals. Maintain consistent daily timing. First dose should preferably be taken at bedtime to prevent first-dose hypotension.
General Administration Advice: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment course. For oral medications, swallow with sufficient water. Never stop antibiotics, psychiatric medications, or antihypertensives abruptly without clinical direction.
Possible Side Effects
Common: Persistent dry hacking cough (due to bradykinin accumulation), dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, orthostatic hypotension. Rare/Severe: Boxed warning: Fetal toxicity in pregnancy; life-threatening angioedema (swelling of face, lips, tongue, larynx, gut), hyperkalemia, acute renal failure, and neutropenia/agranulocytosis.
*Note: Individual physiological responses vary. While many patients experience few or no side effects, notify your treating physician if adverse reactions persist or if hypersensitivity (angioedema, skin rash, dyspnea) occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
Black box warning: Fetal toxicity; discontinue immediately if pregnancy is detected. Absolute contraindication in patients with a history of ACE inhibitor-associated angioedema and bilateral renal artery stenosis. Monitor serum creatinine and potassium regularly. Do not take potassium supplements.
