Clinical Overview
Sitagliptin Phosphate (50 mg, 100 mg) is an orally active, highly selective beta-amino acid-derived dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. It competitive inhibits DPP-4, preventing the rapid enzymatic degradation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), prolonging postprandial active incretin levels. This stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppresses postprandial glucagon secretion without causing hypoglycemia or weight gain. Indicated for type 2 diabetes mellitus as monotherapy or combination therapy.
