🧴 Clinical Application
Take orally with or immediately after a meal or light snack to reduce dizziness and increase absorption. Take at bedtime if prescribed primarily for sleep. Taper gradually before stopping.
⚠️ Side Effects
Common: Somnolence, sedation, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, nausea, blurred vision. Rare/Severe: Boxed warning: Suicidality; priapism (painful, prolonged penile erection requiring emergency urological intervention to prevent permanent impotence), cardiac arrhythmias, and orthostatic syncope.
🛡️ Safety Warnings
Black box warning for suicidality. Critical warning: Patients who develop prolonged or inappropriate penile erections must discontinue immediately and seek emergency medical attention. Contraindicated during acute post-MI recovery and with MAOIs.
