🧴 Clinical Application

Swallow 800 mg (four 200 mg capsules) orally every 12 hours for 5 consecutive days, with or without food. Swallow capsules whole; do not open, break, or crush. Initiation must occur as soon as possible after diagnosis of COVID-19 and within 5 days of symptom onset.

⚠️ Side Effects

Common: Diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache. Rare/Severe: Severe hypersensitivity reactions, angioedema, potential bone/cartilage toxicity in growing individuals.

Contraindicated during pregnancy: embryo-fetal toxicity risk. Molnupiravir is an orally bioavailable prodrug of the synthetic ribonucleoside derivative N4-hydroxycytidine (NHC). In viral replication, viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase misincorporates NHC triphosphate instead of cytidine or uridine, inducing widespread viral error catastrophe and rendering the virus unable to replicate. Indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adult patients at high risk for progression to severe disease, hospitalization, or death.
