🧴 Clinical Application
Take orally with water, with or without food. Tablets can be swallowed whole or crushed and mixed with applesauce. Doses should be titrated gradually and tapered slowly before stopping.
⚠️ Side Effects
Common: Somnolence, sedation, fever, lethargy, drooling, constipation, aggression. Rare/Severe: Boxed warning: Serious skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), respiratory depression, physical dependence, and suicidal ideation.
🛡️ Safety Warnings
Black box warning: Risk of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, especially in the first 8 weeks of therapy; seek emergency medical care at the first sign of rash. Boxed warning for dependence and abuse. Dose adjustment required in CYP2C19 poor metabolizers.
