Brivaracetam is a 4-propyl analogue of levetiracetam with 15- to 30-fold higher binding affinity for synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A). It penetrates the blood-brain barrier rapidly and provides potent anticonvulsant activity with potentially fewer neuropsychiatric and behavioral adverse reactions than levetiracetam. Indicated as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in patients with epilepsy aged 1 month and older.
