Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) oxidizes L-arginine into nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells, stimulating cyclic GMP to produce potent arterial vasodilation, improving uteroplacental blood flow, and reducing vascular resistance. Indicated for prevention and management of pre-eclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), oligohydramnios in pregnancy, and endothelial dysfunction.
